Volunteer: A person who engages in unpaid activities individually or in groups, regularly or occasionally, domestically or internationally, for the common good, out of personal will, and without financial compensation.

Festival Volunteer Centre  The Festival Volunteer Centre organises volunteer programs for Hungary’s largest festivals. It serves as the venue for presenting the Festival Volunteer Program at the festival.

Volunteer base: The community space of the Festival Volunteer Center, as well as the location for administration.

Host organisation: The organization entrusted by the event with the coordination of volunteers. The Host Organization is in a contractual relationship with the Volunteers.

Mentor: The direct helper of Volunteers, responsible for facilitating information flow and solving problems quickly among volunteers, coordinators, and group leaders.

Coordinator: The person responsible for coordinating and administrating volunteers.

On-site supervisor: The professional leader of Volunteers who provides instructions related to specific tasks.

How many hours do I need to work per day?

We typically expect volunteers to contribute an average of 6 hours per day. This can vary depending on the event, but we always provide advance notice in each case.

When will I know my schedule?

You will receive your schedule at the on-site registration before the event takes place at the latest.

Will I have free time? Will I be able to attend any of the concerts?

We try to schedule shifts in a way that allows time for attending concerts during the festival.

What benefits do we receive?

The benefits vary from event to event, but typically our volunteers receive meals, uniforms, occasionally camping passes, or other accommodation options. The volunteer contract outlines the benefits provided to volunteers for each specific event.

How much payment do we receive?

No financial compensation is provided for volunteer activities.

What type of wristbands do volunteers receive?

Volunteers receive personalised staff festival passes or concert tickets attached to a photo ID card with an individual code.

What is the banlist?

We aim to work with volunteers who take their responsibilities seriously, value the positive reputation of volunteering as much as we do, and understand the importance of their role. To prevent abuses, we must take action in cases where these criteria are not met.

You may be placed on the banlist under the following circumstances:

  • If, after signing the contract, you cancel your participation in the festival without valid justification.
  • If you breach the contract during the event.

Individuals on the blacklist may be prohibited from volunteering or working at events organized by the Festival Volunteer Center for a period ranging from 2 to 5 years, depending on the severity of the violation.

What should I do if I can’t apply?

If you encounter any problems with the application, please email us at info@fesztivalonkentes.hu and let us know where you got stuck.

How can I sign my contract?

If you are selected for a festival, you can electronically sign your contract with the Host Organization by logging into your profile.

If you are certain that you will be available, accept your contract by clicking the appropriate button. It’s important to only accept the contract if you are sure you will be able to volunteer! If you cannot confirm your absence after signing the contract and take the spot from another applicant, you will unfortunately be placed on a blacklist.

If you are certain that you won’t be able to join us, please select the option to decline the contract!

When is the audition?

If your application is accepted, you will be informed about the audition times after logging into your profile. You will be able to sign up for an audition at dates determined by us through your profile.

How can I apply for the audition?

Participation in the online audition is mandatory!

If you received notification via email after your application, you can find information about the audition times by logging into your volunteer profile. You can sign up for one of the available time slots on this platform. The Google Meet link will be provided in the audition’s description.

If you fail to attend the audition you selected, you can reapply for future time slots after the conclusion of the current audition session. This administrative process may take a few days.

How long is an audition?

An audition usually takes 1-1.5 hours.

How does an audition look like?

We are organizing group online auditions, where everyone will have the opportunity for a brief introduction to get to know each other better. After that, you will hear about the most important information regarding the volunteer program. Then, you can learn about the tasks performed by volunteers assigned to different roles and ask any questions you may have.

Do I still need to go for a medical examination if I already have a health booklet?

Yes, you still need to undergo a medical examination even if you already have a health booklet, as we can only accept a fitness certificate issued by the healthcare provider contracted with the host organization.

Can I go to a different doctor for the examination?

No, we can only accept a certificate issued by the healthcare service contracted with the hosting organisation.

Do I have to pay for the medical examination?

No, the hosting organization covers the cost of the medical examination.

Do I have to take a medical examination again if I was a volunteer last year?

Yes, because during the medical examination, the doctor issues a certificate valid for one year, so this needs to be repeated every year.

If I’ve already had a medical examination this year before the festival, do I need to go again?

If you have visited the doctor designated by us and have already received a certificate for you for this year, then you do not need to go for the examination again.

When do I need to arrive at the event and how long do I need to stay?

It depends on the event and the position you’re assigned. Pre- and post-event volunteers typically need to arrive about 5-6 days before the festival and can leave about 2-3 days afterward. For volunteers engaged during the festival, they usually need to arrive about 2-3 days before the official start and can leave 1-2 days after it ends. These details will be clarified closer to the event.

How does the travel to the festival / venue happen?

Everyone is responsible for organising their own travel to the location of the event. If you’d like to travel together with your fellow volunteers, your mentor will add you to the event’s Discord channel after signing the contract, where you can join discussions or propose the idea of carpooling! 😉

Will my travel expenses be reimbursed?

Travel expenses are generally not included in the benefits. If a particular event deviates from this practice, we will inform you about it upon contract signing.

What should I bring with me?

  • Personal documents
  • The exact amount of deposit
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Sunscreen, insect repellent, water bottle, hat, closed-toe shoes, phone, phone charger, rain boots
  • If camping: tent and accessories, mattress, sleeping bag, towel, and other toiletries.

Will tents be provided?

No, everyone needs to bring their own tent; we can only provide camping space.

Where will I be able to camp?

At festivals, camping for volunteers is provided in the staff camping area.

Can I camp together with my friends who are not working?

Unfortunately, at festivals, we cannot provide access for your friends to the staff camping area, just as we cannot provide it for you to other camping areas. If you want to camp with them, you will need to purchase a visitor camping ticket.

I eat vegetarian / vegan / gluten-free / etc. How will the meals be provided for me?

If you are a vegetarian/vegan/have dietary restrictions, you can indicate that in your profile. Based on the information provided here, we can ensure that you receive the meals specified in the contract.

What is the on-site registration?

The on-site registration will take place on the day of your arrival at the event. We will go through the contents of the contract again, you will participate in a fire and occupational safety training, and we will provide you with all the useful on-site information!

How much is the deposit?

The deposit is generally equal to the full price of a daily ticket for the respective event. You can find up-to-date information about this on the Events page of your volunteer profile under Events-> My Applications -> Event

When do I need to pay the deposit?

The deposit will be collected during on-site registration. You will always receive a receipt for this, which you should keep safe. At the end of the event, after your last shift, bring this receipt and a photo ID to one of the deposit refund sessions.

When do I get my deposit back?

The deposit refund will take place at the designated times at the end of the event, once you have completed your assigned tasks and checked out of your last shift.

Do I need the handover receipt to get my deposit back?

Yes, and also your ID card! Without verifying your identity, we cannot release the deposit. If you miss the deposit pickup at the end of the event, you can later collect it at our Budapest office, also by presenting a photo ID.

Can I receive a certificate for this as community service?

It’s important to note that voluntary community service is not the same as school-mandated community service. We can only issue certificates for school-mandated community service if we have a contract with the school that the volunteer attends.
